I don't even know where to begin! This school year has been intense. Teaching Middle School full time took a lot of my time, and therefore I have not blogged in a very, very long time! In the meantime, here are some important events/milestones:
September:
Jack started Kindergarten and turned 6! He is loving school, and he is VERY successful! He went from not being able to read any words before school, to being able to read whole books in only 8 months! He is now in the highest reading class! He also gets good reports, report cards, and As on all of his math tests. He went from the 69% in reading to the 89%ile! He is almost at the 80%ile in math. He as made a lot of really good friends (so has mommy :)
Charlie started his new school - Contemporary Preschool- and also loves it! He gets so excited when John drops him off. The teachers are all fabulous, and he has also made "friends". There is a boy Levi whom he is particularly close to.
October:
November:
Jack went to his first birthday party for a friend at school! Nathan is still one of his best friends from his class.
December:
Jack lost his first tooth! It happened right before Christmas (Kaylee lost hers at the same time!). He woke us up in the morning crying that he lost it, and could't find it. We assume he swallowed it. We wrote the tooth fairy a letter. Jack came into our room the next morning crying that the tooth fairy never came! Oops! Luckily the tooth fairy happened to have a dollar and was able to sneak one in when she went in to change Charlie ;)
Christmas in AZ! It was a whirlwind trip, but we had a good time. Jack thought it was so cool that we were "in the dessert". Even though he was disappointed we didn't see any camels or pyramids :) Charlie did wonderful on the plane. Jack spent all day in Mimi's pool! All the cousins got along so well. It was wonderful.
January:
New Years at the Owen's again. Always a blast!
February:
Mom turned 40! Of course, Charlie got pneumonia over that weekend, so we had to cancel plans and stay in. John was super sweet and made me a steak dinner. He did take me out for a perfect evening the following weekend. We had oysters and champagne at Shaw's and then dinner and jazz at Andy's Jazz club. A perfect Carrie night :)
March:
April:
Ok, now I can give some Charlie updates. Poor 2nd child did not get a week by week update like Jack. But he is not loved any less! He is awesome! We love everything about him. He is a little scrapper. Tough for sure. And more opinionated than we remember Jack being. But sweet and happy nonetheless. I say he's "trouble"-but he really isn't. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Jack is his big brother and is SO good with him.
Charlie's milestones, tricks, quirks, etc..
He now has almost all of his teeth! He got them a lot earlier than Jack. However, Charlie is a more picky eater than Jack. Jack used to eat anything at this age, but Charlie, although still pretty good, has a lot of dislikes. He also goes through phases. He will LOVE some foods , and then all of a sudden refuse to eat them again. Example: blueberries
Charlie is walking/running, climbing, throwing, kicking, twirling, building with blocks, doing puzzles... he is trying to jump and it is hysterical :)
Communication-he seems to be a little behind in speech, like Jack was. Here are some "words" he has:
Fist words he said:
Mama
Dada-daa
Uh-Oh
Blanket- dee dee (just like Jack :)
Now:
Jack -ack
ball-baw
dog and duck sound similar- da
two ( when he "counts" he says "two, two, two....")
train-choo choo
car-voom (or some kind of car sound)
monkey-oh-oh-ah-ah (with the gestures)
lion/tiger/dinosaur...- a soft, deep throat-ed rawr
bye-bye-with the wave
thank you-da do
banana-anana
shoes-due
sock-ock
night-night- nigh nigh
down-dow
still a lot of "dis" and "dat"
Signs: milk please, more and all done (and is starting to say more and all done)
Can nod his head yes and no (which we find hysterical! It is very over exaggerated, like he is a bobble head)
Charlie can point to most of his body parts (and loves it :)
He can identify other things like a picture of a baby
loves dogs and points of every one we see on our walks
He also loves baths!
Charlie copies literally everything Jack does. He is his shadow. It's magical to watch them together. We could not feel more blessed.
